Somos PAC Launches Door-to-Door Canvass Program in Michigan's 4th District as part of $2 Million Investment
Canvassers hit the doors today, contrasting Sean McCann's fight to lower costs with Rep. Huizenga's votes for billionaire tax breaks, and making the case for Abdul El-Sayed for Senate
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Somos PAC announced that its door-to-door canvassing operation in Michigan's 4th Congressional District has launched, putting canvassers face-to-face with Latino voters five weeks before the November 3rd election. The canvass will advance Democratic candidates in both the MI-04 House race and the U.S. Senate race.
The canvass is part of the $2 million Somos PAC program to persuade and mobilize Latino voters in support of Democratic candidates in Michigan, announced earlier this month as part of a combined $3 million investment with Somos Votantes. It builds on the TV and digital advertising campaign Somos PAC launched with LCV Victory Fund, which holds Rep. Bill Huizenga accountable for voting to cut the clean energy supply and hand tax breaks to billionaires while utility bills climb for working families.
Canvassers will make the case that Sean McCann in MI-04 and Abdul El-Sayed for U.S. Senate, two candidates who will fight for a Michigan we can afford: lowering prices by making the ultrarich pay more in taxes and holding big corporations that unfairly raise prices accountable. They will also help voters make a plan to vote, including when, where, and how they can cast their ballots.
"Our ads put Bill Huizenga's record in front of Latino voters. The doors are where we finish the conversation," said Melissa Morales, Founder and President of Somos PAC. "Latino families in Southwest Michigan are watching their utility bills, groceries, and gas prices climb, and they deserve to hear directly from someone in their community about who is making their lives more expensive and who plans to lower costs. That's what our canvassers are going to do, starting today. We aren't taking any vote for granted in this district, and we're going to make sure every Latino voter has the information and a plan to make their voice heard in November."
The MI-04 canvass follows the organizations' latest state-by-state polling, which found deep economic concern among Latino voters in Michigan. In relation to the Iran war, 72% of Latino voters in Michigan said they are concerned about inflation, 72% about gas prices, and 67% about the cost of the conflict to taxpayers.
The investment is part of the nearly $20 million Somos Votantes and Somos PAC have committed this cycle to reach Latino voters nationwide, including in Texas, Wisconsin, Arizona, Nevada, and California.
