Somos Votantes and Somos PAC Celebrate Historic Victories in Texas Senate and Governor's Races
Record-setting Latino voter turnout propelled James Talarico and Gina Hinojosa to decisive victory
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Somos Votantes and Somos PAC founder and president Melissa Morales, released the following statement on Texas results, where Somos made its largest investment of the cycle:
“Tonight, hardworking Texans delivered the ultimate Texas-sized lesson, proving that shifts among Latino voters were never a permanent realignment, they were a demand for real results. Congratulations to Senator-elect James Talarico and Governor-elect Gina Hinojosa on a hard-fought win. Latino voters were fed up with Republican promises on the economy while facing skyrocketing costs of gas, groceries, and healthcare — inflation made worse by Trump’s tariffs, a reckless war with Iran, and the chaos caused by ICE in our communities. Talarico and Hinojosa showed up, listened, and were very clear about who is driving up costs: billionaires and corrupt politicians rigging the system. But economic frustration alone did not drive Latino voters to the polls. Early and sustained voter engagement by groups like Somos at the doors, in the community and online, made the difference. We are proud of the work done in Texas where Latino voters were reached at historic levels: nearly 300,000 doors knocked, over 36,000 conversations and a combined $6 million invested across Somos PAC’s program and Somos Votantes’ separate, nonpartisan program. The clock is ticking, it’s time to show hardworking Texans that government can actually deliver results.”
